A 12vdc fan can be connected to a vehicle battery by wiring a standard power outlet plug to it and plugging it in to the cigarette lighter or power outlet that most vehicles have.
Be aware that running high power equipment or running for extended periods will discharge the battery and then starting the vehicle will be difficult or not possible so it really is not a good idea.

With an auto battery you should use 12 volt fans. The idea of a power converter just will not work very long, as most batteries can only produce about 300-400 amp hrs of energy and they will go dead.

If you have a 12 volts DC fan then there is no problem.
For a 115 volts AC fan you need a generator or an inverter.

Get a 110v converter from radio shack. About 20 bucks. You can then plug in small appliances to it.
Will drain your car battery if car not running.
