If this is a person you knoww I would let them know that you don'tappreciatee thelanguagee that they were using and not to do it any more.

I do that at work and if I'm out with friends. Most of the time they respect my feelings and don't talk that way around me.

I would have tried to answer back rationally and try and refute anything he was saying, if that didn't happen, then ignore him. I'm atheist and I think that is wrong, but just out of curiosity what does him being atheist got to do with anything?

You did the right thing. To simply ignore him was your best choice. To argue wit him, or swoop insults would only escalate the situation. By ignoring him you give him nothing to vent at.

A person like this has other "issues" that need addressing.

Sorry that another atheist would cuss you out. I would expect that of a Protestant not an atheist.

Ignorance is no reason for rudeness. Being a Catholic, I have had this problem and to ignore the person works but then they think they have won. Remember one person can't ruin your day unless you let them.
