How are maintenance costs on a Mazda MPV?

We have a 2003 Mazda MPV, 85,000 miles, which we took in for a checkup at a local mechnic. He quoted us a price of $1200 for a tuneup, and added that the coils are starting to fail.

Seems a little excessive to me for a tuneup, and my experience has been that when coils fail, they fail completely.

Does this seem a little out of line to you? How expensive have you found your Mazda MPV to be?

tune up can be a lot of things... what things the mechanic will change for that price?

changing the spark plugs are a true pain because you have to take out the intake manifold for that and that will be about 500 just for change the spark plugs

I dont own a Mazda MPV but i do no that some shop do make u pay a lot of mony for a tune up and it also depends at wich shop u took it at. I took my car to the shop for a look at and they said it would of costed me 1200 and i have 97 Dodge magnum 1500 V8. if your looking for a shop i would go for qoutes online or look in the adds for the news paper until u find one that is a little cheaper.

note: if u do take it to a shop that u dont no of bewarned ur car might have something else messed up in it that u might have to take back to get fixed again.

No surprise. Find another mechanic. I've been quoted outrageous prices in the past until I found a mechanic that truly knows MPVs. NO it's not just another car.
