I am having a kidney transplant tomorrow?

I was wondering what they do to you the day before surgery. Does it hurt a lot after surgery? How long until I am able to get up and walk around?

Hi! First off congrats on having a kidney transplant. That is amazing & I wish you the best of luck.

I just had a transplant in february (this year) so maybe I can help answer some of your questions with how my experience went. The day before the surgery they didn't do anything, I just showed up really early the day of surgery, was admitted & sat around for a while. Then eventually I got taken back to the operating room and was put to sleep. Next thing I remember was waking up in the recovery room feeling groggy, but not in pain. There honestly wasn't too much pain, just sore, which they will give you good meds for. My doctors were getting me up and walking the day after surgery. They said the longer I lay around I could get pneumonia and I'd just be more sore. I went home after 5 days in the hospital. I had some pain/discomfort at home b/c of course the meds weren't as strong as they were in the hospital but I just took it easy. I wish you the best of luck & again congrats. Just take things slow and if you need anything else feel free to email me.
