what 2 digits does a NY state tax ID number begin with?

Update:

It may be the FEIN I'm looking for.....I'm trying to determine whether a Corp Tax ID in NY beginning with 58 is valid.

For an individual, it is usually your Social Security Number (SSN). For a business, it is usually the Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN).

The tax ID numbering scheme has been changed and they are no longer issued based on the address. Any employer ID number is two digits-hyphen-seven digits.
