What causes Ringing Ears?

I know about tinnitus (I don't know if that's how you spell it) but I was also wondering if not getting enough vitamins could also cause ringing ears. I was told it could, but I want more opinions. Any information would be much appreciated.

my sign language teacher told us that the sound of the ringing in your ears is the sound that the little hairs inside your ears make when they are dying. These hair receptors are what catches the sound and sends the message to your brain. you could hear ringing after being exposed to loud noise or music for a long time or if you have water in your ears or even for no apparent reason. i don't think it could be from not enough vitamins. usually there are different signs for that like white spots on your nails and different things like that.

  • Some times when peoples ears are damaged such as continuous ear infections, punctured ear drum or the ear drum bursting can cause the ringing, or loud noises, They say the only way to get rid of it is by surgery. When I was little I shoved barbie shoes in my ears, hill first, and I also had a lot of ear infections. But there are a number of things that can cause it. I've never really heard that it was caused by not enough vitamins.

I've never heard the vitamin deficiency cause of tinnitus, but maybe someone else will be able to be specific. Several things can cause the ringing, but loud noise, loud music, power tools and loud machinery, certain meds, such as aspirin can cause it. It is caused by the minute 'hairs" in the ear being damaged and dying. They are very delicate.

if you're listening to your iPod/Mp3 player, and you notice ringing after that then it's probably because you're listening to music too loudly. If you're exposed to any loud noise otherwise, that'd be my guess as to why your ears are ringing. My great uncle has tinitus from being around loud machinery.
