YES. I have a Sony e-book reader and have downloaded many books from Gutenberg.

Go through the catalog and click on the book you want to download. On the next page, look for Formats Available for Download. Under that, choose Format (Plain Text) and Compression (none), then click on the link that says Main Site. That will start the download process to your computer.

After it is downloaded to your computer, open your e-book library, then move the file into there, and then move it into your reader.

I have probably made this sound much more complicated than it really is. Good luck!

First off, Don't be misled about what books are available, a program called Calibre will convert just about any format to any other, so any book that you can get for the Kindle will also be readable on the Sony or Nook and visa-versa. Because of this its very much down to which you prefer the look and feel of. I've not played with the Nook so cannot comment apart from what I have read else where on the web. The Nook has by far the lowest battery life of the three, a quoted 10 days (wiFi off) as opposed to the Sony's 3 Weeks and the WiFi only Kindle's 4 weeks. It does however boast a micro TF slot which gives it greater storage capacity than either the Sony of the Kindle. However since eBooks tend to be quite small (The 4GB kindle can supposedly store 3500 books) I'm not sure if it is a real advantage. For reference my Kindle currently has roughly 300 Books and 1 GB of music on it and is well under half full. The Sony is certainly more stylish than the Kindle which is rather drab looking. The Sony boasts a touch screen and is available in several different colours. The touch screen is easier if you are used to a touch phone or IPad but the kindles navigation buttons are well placed and easy to use.The Sony is also smaller and lighter than the Kindle. However the Kindle has a marginally bigger screen, twice as much memory (see previous comment), built in WiFi and 3G for roughly the same price as the cheapest Sony reader. The real advantage of both the Kindle and Nook over the Sony is built in WiFi and free 3G, Amazon's set up seems to be far better organised than Barnes & Nobles. The Kindle supports a built in web browser which can be used for general browsing as well as accessing Amazon. Its very basic, you can access Facebook just don't expect farmville or bejewelled to work. The kindle also has a basic mp3 player built in, however it just plays the tracks as a background sound you have little or no control over the order. If you have a decent laptop then the WiFi delivery isn't really going to be an issue and neither will be the use of the web browser or mp3 playback. Likewise 2GB of memory is adequate for 1000-1500 books if they are in the right format. Because of this I would suggest that for you the Sony is probably the best choice. If however you want the ability to directly download without a PC or browse the web from it then the Kindle would be better suited. EDIT - Mizz G's suggestion of the iPad has some merit although it also has several disadvantages. First off is the cost, Secondly the size, at 10 Inches an iPad is huge and not something that you can carry in your pocket. It also has an LCD screen which isn't the easiest thing to read, certainly not as easy on the eyes as the eInk displays on eReaders. The Kindle does support basic note taking, its pretty basic but it does work but I wouldn't want to type a report on it.

There are numerous many reports out there that do not have movies. Literature can explore principles and ideas without having to fret in regards to a special results budget.
