Our newborn baby is 9 days old & he's eating a lot and often. Is this Normal? ?
He was born 8lbs 7oz and his last weigh (at 5 days) he was 8lbs 8oz. He's bigger now that he's 9 days old.
He's eating every 2 1/2 to 3 hours and eating about 4-6 oz formula during that time period. A couple of days ago he was eating 3oz formula every feeding. Now it seems to have almost double? Is this normal?

Well I do agree that they go through groth spurts but I just had my little ones 2 month check up and I told the doc that he was eating 4 oz every 2-4 hrs and he said that was a little on the high end for a two month old. If it was breastmilk I would say that It would be okay since breastmilk is easier to digest, but formula is different. I have also heard if hes hungary then feed him so its really a matter of how you feel about it and whether your doc thinks it is okay.
On average, a newborn consumes about 1.5 to 3 ounces (45 to 90 milliliters) every 2 to 3 hours. This amount increases as your baby grows and is able to take more at each feeding
At about 2 months, your baby may be taking 4 to 5 ounces (120 to 150 milliliters) at each feeding and the feedings may be every 3 to 4 hours.

Yeah, sounds like you have a very healthy hungry baby. Congrats on the baby by the way! And just think, someday he will be 13 and he will REALLY be eating a lot!!! ;) Just make sure you dont do anything such as putting cereal in his bottle unless a doc says it is okay. So many people do that and it is really not recommended and really kind of stupid to do. Good luck, and again, congratulations!

It is all so normal...
They have little growth spurts which they will sleep and feed alot more than usual.
Try not to worry about the feeding issues...i know its hard when they are newborn!! It will all fall into place soon!
If you ever have a problem never hesitate to ask your doctor. Mine is really good and always says if she is feeding she is probbly ok.
Congratulations x

newborn eats every 2 hours, but doubling the formula in only 10 days of birth is kinda too much, ask your pediatrician cause you don't want an obese baby.

Totally normal. Remember he is growing rapidly. They grow more in the first year then they do the rest of their life. And it's about time for a growth spurt. The best thing to do is just feed him on demand.

It is normal. My son is eight weeks old and still eats every two and half to three hours. Do keep in mind that a really young babies can not tell you when they've had enough. In fact, they will keep eating when it's offered to them. Then you got yourself a little geyser in your arms with too much in his belly! I know it's hard not to fret over how much baby is getting but he knows how much he needs. Take your cues from him. My little starts to sigh when he's had enough.
Hope this helps.
