I'm dieting, but I'm so hungry, what should I do?! Please help me out.?

Well over the summer I lost a lot of weight, but now that school has started up again, although I try to exercise and eat right, its way harder now and despite my best efforts, I've ended up gaining 2 pounds. So now I'm trying to go back on the diet that helped me lose the weight in the first place, which was basically just lowering my caloric intake to 1,700. Problem is, my body just can't cope with 1,700 calories any longer, 2,000 is barley enough, and I'm starving with the decrease. Last night I couldn't sleep at all because the hunger pangs hurt so bad, and it's only been one day. I don't want to let myself down, but how can I go on like this?

You are being a little hard on yourself. Slowly decrease your intake. It's like telling a first time runner to run 7 miles out of no where. You must slowly and gradually make your way to your goal.

If you are hungry, then snack on something healthy, and then have a good glass of water. That usually does the trick. But don't starve yourself.

When you starve yourself, you are basically taking a step backwards. Starving causes your metabolism to slow down. So when you finally eat, it'll absorb more calories. So never be hungry, and never be TOO full. Just the right amount.

Also, I would advise you to not judge yourself by the scale. It's deceiving sometimes. I was too on a diet. I lost weight and a couple weeks later, I began to gain weight. I thought I wasnt doing it right because I shouldnt be gaining weight.

But later, so it seems, muscle weights more than fat, so its okay to gain.

Heres a good tip. Go find a pair of jeans you would want to fit in (not to small like a size 0 or something) then exercise and eat healthy until yo u are able to fit in it.

So basically, go by the fitting of your clothes. Only use your scale to see your progress, dont let it fool you sometimes.

About the calories, start with 1900 one week. decrease to 1800. decrease to 1700. decrease to 1600. and about 1500 you should stop decreasing. If you see anyone say 1200, it's pretty bad. Thats a really low calorie intake so dont go too close to 1200. and keep exercising. Drink plenty of water.

    Best of Luck

1700 cal is a lot. i'm on less than 1000 cal diet right now and although it was real difficult for the first few days, once you get used to it, you don;t get hunger pangs at all. In my case, my activity level is very low so i guess 1700 cal diet is ok for you as you go to school n probably still in growing age. first of all, replace sugary foods with high protein stake, chicken breast, fish fillet, veggie salad or fruit chunks. eliminate chocolates, icecreams, candies etc. secondly don't go hungry.. have breakfast and dinner at the same time every day. have 10-20 small salted peanuts for snack .don't snack more than twice a day. drink 8 - 10 glasses of water. take daily multivitamin.

Yes, you can drink a water and get some fresh fruit to make strong your physic without influence with your weight.

A diet supplement is an optional when you can't face above those suffering.

Eat LOTSA egg whites, but limit it to only 3 egg yolks per week .

Rely on chicken and turkey/tuna to keep you full at mealtimes.

    Snack on egg whites.

Drink those low-calorie protein shake things.

Protein takes longer to digest than carbs, so you'll feel full for longer.

Sip on zero-calorie flavored water throughout the whollee day.

Also, eat lotsa apples; they;re full of fiber anf will keep you full.

Dont stick to 3 meals, you'll get hungry. Eat snacks constiting of eggs and/or apples.

    Remember, eat plenty of chicken!!!
