Question about horse riding boots?

I usually use my worn-out street shoes to riding, but I just began to wonder - because of something I heard at the stables.

The zippers on my boots are on the inner side, so they touch the horse.

Does it do any bad to the him when it rubs against his side?

There has to be reason why there's no zipper on the riding boots anyways.
