The theory most accepted for now is that the Earth got impacted by ice comets over millions of years and the water vapor settled out. It turns out that many comets are made out of ice and over long enough, that could account for the water on the surface of our planet. I have also seen it that volcanos produce water vapor.

the vast majority of earths water became into there from the commencing up yet for an prolonged time it became into all steam. The earths environment became into additionally approximately 70 circumstances as dense because it particularly is now. finally the earths floor cooled down adequate for water to start condensing and rain down. Alot of water might even have come to earth by using comet impacts. So that's no longer so unusual that earth has lots water through fact the molecule itself is extremely easy. the actual question is: in view that earth, venus and mars all shaped in an identical way, howcome those planets have very virtually no water? it particularly is plausble that mars and venus did have various water. floor advantageous properties on mars helps this as does the abundance of heavy hydrogen isotopes in venus environment. yet the two planets have misplaced their water through interplay with the suns ultraviolet rays that chop up water into hydrogen and oxygen. And whilst the hydrogen is loose it could attain escapeenergy and vent off into area.
