Where can I donate books?

My bookshelf is packed and I've read all the books on it. I want to get more books but what do I do with the old ones?

    - Hospitals are generally willing to take used books.

    - You can drop books off at your local Goodwill or Salvation Army

    - If any local organizations (volunteer groups, churches, etc.) are having used book sales soon, you can donate your books to their causes.

    - Sometimes school libraries will take donated books, but you'd have to check with the school first.

Your library does not want them unless it is having a book sale as a fund raising. I cannot tell you how many people leave boxes of books in the hallway and the library has to spend precious resources to dispose of the books. Hospitals will take them, otherwise try a thrift store. Sending them to the soldiers is not permissible unless you have the name and full address of a particular soldier. Also the expense of mailing books is outrageous.
