Amateur Radio in Ontario Canada?
This is specifically for Ham operators in my province.
How do I apply for a license?
About me: I'm a fully qualified electronic engineer (over 20 years experience, working in RFID industry currently).
Upon receiving a license I would be using my own home-made low power 'phone transmitter and receiver.
Since I already maintain a home lab I can easily construct such equipment for my own uses (I prototyped such a basic transmitter just today with a DC input 24 watts).
I wouldn't be buying any pre-manufactured equipment because of the enormous cost.
I'd like to find out who I should apply to in my area and how much the license would cost me.
I've already tried contacting the RAC by e-mail and have had no success whatsoever - are they even staffed?
Also I had an idea....my wife is deaf and communicates on the phone with a device called a TTY (basically a very low speed acoustic modem, a keyboard and an alphanumeric display).
I thought it might be wonderful if deaf people would be able to communicate with one another via ham radio.
Have any Hams ever contemplated something like this?

Go to ARRL.org they are In the US but I am sure they will help you. There are allot of digital modes in Ham Radio (packet, RTTY,PSK31,ect.) which offer keyboard to keyboard communications.
