85th Birthday Celebration Ideas?
My grandmother is turning 85 this November and we are attempting to come up with fun and original birthday ideas. We were originally going to go to a local casino (live in Chicagoland area) but she is afraid that the weather may be bad. She does have a walker and is afraid of falling in bad weather. Her birthday is in the end of November and the weather here is unpredictable. We have talked about a party but there is some dissention from others in the family. If anyone has some creative ideas of what to do or where to go that would be wonderful.
Thanks

I'd rent a wheelchair so she can be pushed to the party. Take her walker inside and she can use it indoors only. You don't want to take a chance of her falling.
I'd ask her what she wants and let everyone else fall in line with her wishes. It's her birthday. She may want to go to her favorite restaurant and then go home. If she wants party at the casino, give her one. Let her choose the venue, then make it happen for her.
I've had birthdays for several older relatives (up to age 100!). Some are just too frail or tired to do much more than have dinner. My great-grandmother had quite a bit of energy at her 90th. We had a big party at my Uncle's that lasted for about 8 hours. Let your Grandma decide what she is up to doing. Don't worry about pleasing everyone, you can't. Just please grandma.
Request a greeting from President Bush (even if she's a democrat). A Presidential birthday card has been a huge hit every time I've ever done it. You need to get your request in right away. The link is below. It makes it very special for them. I do it as a surprise and later frame the card for them. I've also requested birthday greetings from State Governors. I don't always get a response with them. The Presidents always come through, however.
Good luck. I hope your grandma has a wonderful birthday celebration.

I had 80's day at my school. So you know how the trend now is 80's? Well, Wetseal is the best place to go to get let warmers, weird colored leggings and bangles and well you get the idea. You should play like Michael Jackson, Cindi Loper, Duran Duran, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, etc. You should also try and play like karaoke or rockband. If you don't have either one then make one yourself! Have fun!
