I used to be a Christian because I was brought up by Christian parents who had been taught that they should teach their children that the beliefs they had been taught were true. This is one of the ways religion perpetuates itself. However, as I grew up, I started to realize that some of the things about Christianity that had not made sense to me as a child hadn't started making any more sense, and there were other problems with the religion that I hadn't noticed before, and ultimately, what was the difference between this "true" religion and all the "mythological" religions of civilizations past? No difference at all, I realized, and thus I came to stop being Christian.
