Cable modem problem.?

Recently my cable modem started resetting itself every 10-15 minutes. This is a big problem as I'm an avid PC gamer. Comcast came out and tested the signal and said it was strong, so they gave me a new modem. Same problem kept happening. So I went and bought a modem of my own from Walmart and although it doesn't reset anymore my ping seems to have jumped up almost 100%. What could possibly be causing these problems?

Either A) The signal is faltering and since the cable guy only tested it while it was strong, it looked ok to him.

or B) Something is wrong with my networking hardware on my motherboard, however my techy friend said a hardware issue wouldn't be causing the cable modem to reset.

Any suggestions?

Your friend is correct. Call Comcast tech support, tell them the original problem hasn't been fixed, and ask that it be escalated to level 2.

No. The modem will connect with in simple terms one device, the two by skill of USB or Ethernet. i'm not sure what occurs in case you plug the two in, i'd think of one connection has priority over the different, the final answer for you would be to get a cable router, then you definately can plug the computing device and the computing device into it (the two choose an ethernet port). yet another would be to plug the USB into one and make it share the conection, and then plug the two such as a crossover cable. nevertheless a router would be greater solid and configurable. in case you do get a router, you desire a DSL one, no longer an ADSL one.

There is a quality of service option in modem configuration if it is enabled it will disconnect on all poor signal conditions and if disabled it will get disconnected only when signal is not there.

So both are right the modem configuration was not done properly I would say.

check the cables for loose connections.

    check/change your power adapter/power supply.
