My husband did. It just depends how over the limit you are. He was less than 10 pounds over, so it was no big deal. He lost 25 before he left for boot. Something he wanted to do anyway. Talk to a recruiter. If you're only a few pounds over and they don't suspect you'll be able to leave anytime soon, you may be able to sign up. It'll just have a contingency that you lose the weight by such and such date. If you're significantly over the limit, they'll tell you to come back when you lose the weight. It just depends. The max weight for joining any military service is the most you can weigh while in the service. So if you are under that weight there is no problem.
