I am having trouble updating windows xp , update can't install BITS 2.0 Update, Help Please!?

I am trying to update a second computer in my house. I don't even know the last time it was updated, i'd say at least 4 or 5 years ago. I tried updating it by using windows update from the control panel and it led me to a microsoft website. I clicked on get updates and it downloads an update for Background Intelligent Transfer Service 2.0 (BITS) along with Winhttp 5.1 (KB842773). When it tries to install the file a window pops up saying unable to install the file. I tried downloading the file manually through microsoft. when the install pops up, i get a message saying can't install the file because the file is corrupt. Anybody know how to fix the problem?

According to the system properties the computer is running on Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002

I'm having the same problem, but with all of the available updates. I tried what someone posted on a forum and I tried what was posted on the solutions page of the MS updates website and neither worked. If I find something that does work I'll let you know.
