The Curse of Frankenstein was first made in the 1950's...1957 to be precise... lol. You could be frankenstien, im sure you can pull it off... ;)
Freankensein's Daughter also came out in 1958, tell that to your friends when they ask why u are dressed in rags with weird face paint.

there are so many fantastic costumes!
but i don't think you need to go as any particular character, just make sure it's very kitsch.
a blood covered cheerleader/jock always goes down a treat. or one of the munsters.
