Try something not as strong.

Going up to her and asking " YOU WANNA GO OUT WITH ME?! " Is going to scare her.

When you have some alone time..make a small chat, for example..

" Hey did you see that movie yet? "

And the girl will most likely say no or yes.

And thats when you ask her.

Something like this.

" Speaking of movies, im free this weekend..Wanna come? "

Pick a movie she wants to see, even if it scares the living hell out of you. Or bores your brain out of your ears. ( Stay awake if you can.. )

If she gets scared put your arms around her slowly.. If shes cold..give her your sweater or something.

Well if you are an upper classmate, you should not be scared at all to ask her out. Just walk up to her and ask "Would you like to go to the movies friday night? around.... 5" and she will say yes or no... simple as that
