I am probably the most passoinate sharks supporter you'll meet and I appauled the sharks in their choice to stand Bird down after this all came to light. Alot of people have said the sharks would struggle without Bird but they have proven to be stronger then ever.
But in the last few days I'm beginning to think that he should be allowed to play. The bronco's off field dramas has me thinking that the nrl needs to have a ruling on players under investigations for serious crimes.
If there is enough evidence to say the player involved may have a case to answer to then he should be stood down. A person has said Bird has already been convicted, he's been charged but his court appearance is not til October.
Another one has said "we all know he did it." How many of us where in the apartment when it all happern?
The thing is Ms Milligan didn't put an AVO on Bird, the police did, she has vowed to stand by Bird and she is the key witness in all of this. Yes he lied about his mate being involved, but as everyone (especially brisbane supporters) saying the bronco players under investigation are INNOCENT TIL PROVEN GUILTY.
Bird, under Australian Law is still has that same right. He will have his day in court and between now and then unless someone can truly say "I was there and I saw everything" Bird should be allowed to play til proven guilty.

I think the sharks should let Greg Bird play if the Broncos are allowed to fied a full team the Sharks should have the right to do the same.
SHARKS BRING BACK GREG BIRD.

Definitely NOT..why are the shark fans thinking this COWARD is their saviour? No team is scared of coming up against greg bird.Or are some shark supporters thinking "win at any cost"No other team in the finals has a player charged with assault in their team.Other than the broncos players most players are taking the finals seriously.Melbourne Storm players put themselves on a drink ban till after the finals..GO STORM

YES, innocent to proven guilty! He has been charged but the AVO was put on by the police not his girlfriend.. No one but those two know exactly what happened and although he lied and if found guilty of actually attacking her with a glass should be thrown in jail in my opinion he should still be working and doing his job!
Im not a Sharkies fan, but if my teams one chance of actually winning a first ever NRL premiership trophy relied on bird playing or not playing(without him they can not win this year plain and simple) id be devistated if he was found not guilty. If he doesnt play for the team that pays his wages and a team that the fans will now beleive Greg Bird owes ,the fans are the only ones cheated here..
Let him play!

I definately think the sharks should play Greg Bird, he is one of there best, and as his court case isn't until after the grand final what's stopping them. I think that if they are going to keep Greg Bird out through the finals then the broncos should be too, what's good enough for one should be good enough for all.
I agree with Panda None of you were there the night it happened and only the two of them know what really happened, and if his Girlfriend is willing to stand by him, then his club should too.
Cronulla stand up for yourselves and play Birdy, all the other clubs are playing their best so why not at least challenge them, they just want Bird out cos they are scared of coming up against the Best.

NO!!!... Definitely not!!! We don't need thugs in the sport, even though some are, in this sport!! Even after glassing his gf[even if she is a Yank or American], you still wouldn't even do it to your pet dog or cat!! The bloke's definitely a CAT!!, and not even a man, let a lone 'human' - to do it a woman or living thing! If he still wants to play the game, let him go play League in England, or better still join up with Sonny "Dunny Dill"[of what he was known as] Bill, and Gasnier to play Rugby Union in France(as they're Cats there)!! [I have a mate who played Rugby Union in France, but now plays Rugby in Italy - and he told me what the French do! He used to play League for a club and also Rugby for a club here!!] I still remember in 1998 of what happened to our own Wallaby captain in ol' Johnny Eales in the RWC Final, against those Frogs!! They 'eye-gouged' him and the IRB never got the "culprit" who did it!! The Frog-bloke should've got life, if they found out who did it!!
PS. Yo Panda and Festa.... Get a life, will ya!! Anyone that goes around "glassing" or hitting a woman, or abusing or taunting her, let a lone - to any living thing, doesn't deserve their place in society! He's been found guilty of it! And anyone that says elsewise, needs their heads bloody checked!! He's not innocent! So why should he be allowed to come back? Not just for these current on-going finals, but not EVER in the NRL comp here. He can go over to the UK and play Super League if he wishes, or even go and play "Ruck & Maul" Rugby in France, as if I care! *FULL STOP!!* We can also go on and talk about Carney from Canberra, who's been banned from playing in the NRL 'til '11[what I've heard], and also Sonny Bill until '12! But these blokes offences were much lower than what Bird's was. The bloke just doesn't seem to have any morals!! Like many guys say.... "IF U TREAT 'EM MEAN, U KEEP 'EM KEEN!". That's the morals of some blokes - as they believe in it!! Which means that they have no morals or respect for women, even if the woman likes it! That's still no excuse!! Even if she might not have any morals, herself! So someone that brings this question up, mustn't have hardly any morals and is "promoting & acknowledging" that this type of behaviour is 'somewhat' acceptable, by saying that the bloke should play!! The Broncos situation is a different matter, and cases take 'weeks' my friend!! So think before u say anything, Bongo! By the way... how old r u, if u don't mind me asking? Have u seen the current News stories, or just busy in front of a PC, 5-6 hrs a day "24/7" - 7 days a week! Everyone's life doesn't revolve around the Net, like your's seem to do!
Even if the bloke was allowed to play, and if he did, the NRL would damage the game even more! They'd completely destroy it! The NRL definitely needs to set standards. Bird wouldn't win the comp for Cronulla! And not one team revolves around one player!
Source(s): Wisdom & common sense. PS. I don't think people are watching the News. The guy was found guilty, and if his gf wants to stand by him, she's definitely got no brains. By the way... how did she become a Law student here, as she's from the USA? - Anonymous1 decade ago
I am a passionate sharks supporter and I would love for him to play but I don't think it is right that he should. Yes, he's innocent until proved otherwise but deep down we all know in our stomachs that he did. The blokes not right in the head if he is going to do that.
AND indyvade, that was a hell of useless hot air you just pilled out onto this page. I read it all and regretted it after. It read as though you are under the illusion that you are intelligent though if you read between the lines it uncovered that you actually have poo for brains.

No. I know the sharkies need tough players, but giving the missus the bash with a glass ain't that tough. The mouth breather is a boil on the **** cheeks of humanity. The Broncos players haven't been charged by the police. At most they are guilty of bad taste, not domestic violence.

Yes, i know what he did was bad but its separate to the fact that he is a good player and needed for the finals. I think he should play then get whats coming to him. Plus the Broncos players are at the moment only being investigated unlike Bird

No. Greg Bird has been charged with 'maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm' and 'assault occasioning actual bodily harm'.
The Broncos saga is still under investigation and no charges have been laid.
Imagine the outcry if the players were not allowed to play and then were found to be not guilty.
