Cut out the bad spots and make them into applesauce and then turn them (at your convenience because you can freeze the applesauce if you want) into applesauce cake, or cupcakes. If you don't freeze them, then you can have them with a nice pork chop for dinner or on ham.

This is the BEST Applesauce Cake recipe I've ever had - it has been passed down through our family for 6 generations at least. I even use this recipe with my extra Asian Pears after I convert them to "applesauce".

    APPLESAUCE CAKE

    1/2 c butter or margarine

    1 1/2 c sugar

    1 egg

    2 c flour

    1 1/2 c applesauce

    1 tsp cinnamon

    1/4 tsp nutmeg

    1/2 tsp cloves

    1 tsp vanilla

    1 tsp baking soda

1 c stewed raisins (save 3 T of the hot water)

    1/2 c chopped nuts

Sift together the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves and set aside. Beat together the butter and sugar. Beat in the egg. Beat in the applesauce and vanilla. Add the 3 T hot water off the stewed raisins to the baking soda, mix well and beat into the applesauce mixture. Add the raisins and nuts and give a quick beat. Add the flour mixture and mix until no flour is visible. Pour into a sprayed cake pan (rectangular works great) and bake in a preheated 350º oven for 45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. It's a very moist cake.

You can also pour it into sprayed muffin pan and make muffins with it - either lining the muffin pan or not. If using muffin liners, don't spray the muffin pan.

It doesn't need any kind of frosting but if you want to be creative, top it with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream.

You can do whatever you want with these apples. Just because it says it is past it`s sell by date that doesn`t mean anything. They never used to put dates on these, as long as they are not brown, soft and rotting they are o.k.

Make apple sauce but don`t add too much sugar as these apples are already sweet ( taste as you go and add any sugar if you think so) once this is cooked you can freeze it and believe me, this is 100 per cent better than shop bought. I do it often but at times I add different things - like: a little bit of chilli or curry powder just to keep my husband on the ball.

If you have the stuff, apple pie!

    1 cup all-purpose flour

    2 tablespoons sugar

    1 teaspoon baking powder

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    3/4 cup water

    1/2 cup vegetable shortening

    1 egg

a dash of cinnamon and apple pie spice

    6 sliced apples

    Heat oven to 425°F.

Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, water, shortening, and the egg in a medium sized bowl. Beat well for 2 minutes. Grease a pie pan and pour in the mixture. Add the sliced apples , cinnamon, and apple pie spice on top of the flour mixture. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden-brown.

if not, then make apple sauce!

This is a quick, little cake that my grandmother made alot, to use up extra apples, pears or peaches:

    GRAM'S APPLE CAKE

    1/2 c. sugar

    1 egg, slightly beaten

    1 TB. baking powder

    1 TB butter, softened

    1/2 c. sour cream

    1 c. flour

4-5 apples (or as many as you have - or combine with pears)

    extra butter, sugar & cinnamon

Beat first 6 ingredients together well. Pour ino greased square pan. Top with peeled & sliced apples. Dot with more butter; sprinkle with sugar & cinnamon. Bake at 350 for 30-50 min.

I would make applesauce. Just peel chop them up and put in a pan with a little sugar. Adjust the sugar to the type of apple. let it cook down, you can mash it up a little, let it cool and it can be put in small plastic containers and stored in the freezer. You can also slice them, and cook down with a little sugar, and cinnamon, let them cool and store the same way to use with pork chops etc,.

I used to work at an apple orchard and I did this all the time. They store great in the freezer for at least 6 months.

I like to make apple pie with apples like that. Sometimes I slice them into really thin pieces, add butter, cinnamon and sugar and put it all together in a skillet. Then I let it simmer for about an hour, and you have cinnamon apples!!! very good

    Make apple sauce, pies, tarts...

That's what commercial products use. The best apples go to the stores for eating, then the 'wind falls', or older apples are used for processed foods.
