Overweight, need to lose 15-20 lbs?

I am 39 years old, 5'5 and I weigh 166. I have gained about 26 lbs in the last 2 years from lack of exercise, poor diet and anti-depressants. I would like to try to lose at least 15-20 lbs by Christmas. How can I do this and where do I start? I am not big on crash diets and I have recently given up pop hoping that will help a little bit. I am very unhappy since I went from a size 10 to a size 16 in two years and I have a wedding to go to soon so it is tripping me out. Please give me some good advice.

Giving up soda/pop is a GREAT start. Drink lots of water!

I would honestly say if you're looking for long term weight loss and you want to do it the right way - healthy diet and exercise- I would do some research. Knowledge is power, and the more you know, the easier it will be to stay on track, avoid pit-falls, and make better food choices. There are tons of websites out there. A couple of my favorites:

    www.webmd.com

    www.sparkpeople.com

    Here's where I would start:

    1. Clean out your kitchen- try to get rid of all of the junk food lying around your house - chips, cookies, sugary cereals, muffins, cakes, juice cocktails, white bread, etc. Out of site, out of mind.

    2. Head to the store and stock up on produce. Salad mixes, frozen veggies that can be easily added to dishes, veggies you can dip into salad dressing for snacks, fruits (pre-cut or things that don't have to be refrigerated like apples)...buy produce that will be easy to eat.

    3) Replace white breads/pastas with whole wheat breads/pastas. Look for bread and pasta that has "100% whole wheat" or "100% whole grain" on the front.

    4) Buy leaner sources of protein. Tofu, egg whites, chicken (not fried, of course), lean cuts of beef, light cheese and yogurt, skim milk, nuts, etc.

I have a list posted on my fridge of all the healthy foods I like. This is the list I take to the store to ensure my kitchen is always stocked with healthy foods.

Eat a healthy meal or snack every 3-4 hours.

Find an exercise you truly enjoy and do that for at least 30 minutes a day.

Thats the bare minimum amount of information I can give. I don't want my post to look like a novel, so that's why I recommended doing research. Best of luck to you!

It took me a few months but I lost 35 pounds by counting calories. I basically ate lots of fresh fruit and veggies, lean meats and cut snacks out or bought 100 calorie snack packs. It really isn't bad. I am 5'4 and 145 and eat 1000 calories a day. One day on the weekends I have a cheat day to trick my body into thinking it over ate so it works harder. I seen a nutrionist and he told me that. I also walk an hour a day 4 times a week and on rainy days will do a pilates video. I am still losing I have 15 more to go but following this procedure hasn't let me down yet. You should start seeing a diffrence in just a few weeks and you will feel amazing.

    Good luck

I struggled to lose weight for years. Click the link below to read my story (Is Your Scale Broken). I tried something called the "Reset" program and lost 5 pounds in 5 days without going hungry or doing something bad for me. Then I went on to lose another 15 pounds over the next few months. My clothing did not fit well any more and my energy level and my attitude level went up too.

Click on the "Reset" link (below) to watch a few short videos about how it works and where it comes from. If I can do it, so can you.
