Will a DUI prevent you from being a cop?

I was arrested for a DUI when I was 19 years old. Will this hurt my chances of becoming a police officer now even though it was several years ago? My record has been squeaky clean ever since and I haven't even been pulled over. Also does anyone know when this DUI will be off of my record?

If it's been longer than 5-7 years, then probably not. Any sooner and I would say that the chances of getting hired are pretty remote.

It will never go off your record. Apply for a police job. On the application it will ask about this. Tell the truth. Should be ok.

Well it might not keep you from joining in some departments but they will definitely look at that as a negative. You should be fine.
