Can I be forced to wear really high heels?

Hi everyone I work at a lap-dancing club in london, recently the club has been taken over and this means for us a uniform change.

we are now being told we HAVE to wear 8" heels, and PVC thong and bra for every shift and their are rumors they will be padlocked to our ankles for the 6 hour shift so we cant take them off!!! this is no joke- i have actually seen one of the girls having this done to them as they were being made-up!

Also, we are getting plastered in make-up, I only want to wear a little but we are starting to look like clowns with the amount of blue eyeshadow they put on us!

I love my job and dancing and don't want to leave but am just a bit unhappy.

ive only eva worn 4 inch before so can any girls tell me is it hard 2 walk in 8"?

dont get me wrong i love wearing and dancing in heels and just so love dancing

we all have to wear them padlocked.

am considering leaving because of it so please help anyone?

In looking at the link you provided, there really isn't much difference in those shoes than some with 4" heels except your 4" higher off the ground and there is more weight to them. Don't know how it would be to dance in them , though.

As for your question, an employer can require that you wear a uniform. Should you choose not to wear it, you can be "sacked"...

If this is their intent and you are not comfortable with it, maybe you can find some place else to dance that doesn't have these rules or are more flexible. It really it all about enjoying what you do and where you do it...

In general, it would be against employment laws. In particular situations, though, like the fashion industry or the 'erotic dancing' industry, airlines, or even some restaurants/bars- if there is a written and signed agreement there in the first place, it would be legal. If you don't want to sign, don't work there. If you complained, it would almost be like complaining about the uniform after you took the job at McDonald's. The height, of the heel, though, should be no more than a pump, or, yes, the company is open to lots of medical claims. Payless (U.S) has lots of 2 inch pumps with a comfort insole. After one takes the job and if they have an injury (either at work or elsewhere) that would preclude them from wearing anything other than sensible shoes for a time or forever, I think the company should then still keep the employee- IE: medical problem after the fact of agreeing to the terms of employment. If, at the time of employment, this is made plain, that it is part if a dress code, Then I believe the employee is bound to it. High heels may be uncomfortable, but one can buy dr scholls gel inserts and keep the heel as low as possible. The dress code for men likely has some things men would rather not do- like wear an entire suit each day, etc.

Hmmm..well the platform will make it a little easier than if they were just straight stillettos.

I think you and the other girls should get together and agree to all fall over a lot in these new shoes, preferably into large trays of drinks and important clients. Management will soon see the error of their ways!

As for the padlocking..really I know stripping is a job where the bosses take the mickey a lot and bully the workers but this just takes the biscuit. I would go find another club to dance in, hold your head high and take your friends with you. Nobody deserves to be treated like that, they are treating you like animals.

I also wonder if the boss enforcing this has a bit of a shoe fetish he is enjoying punishing you girls with...

Sorry to hear that you are having problems. It sounds as though you love doing what you do, and it bothers me that there is a problem. You should look at your personnel file for a form saying that you agree to conform to company policies. That is where they can get you. I would imagine that it is the same where you are as in the states. Let me know how you make out. Good luck.

There are other jobs you can love as well as you love this one. One word answer: Leave. For all the obvious reasons.

    honestly...

i would say that as a lap dancer, you don't really have a choice.

i'd imagine that it comes with the profession.

try a different club that fits your style more.
