Name of TV sci-fi show about planet split between day and night?

I am trying to remember the name of a sci-fi show that I saw on TV about 15-20 years ago (not sure if it was a made for TV movie or a short lived series).

The story was about a young doctor (from Earth, I believe) who is sent to a planet where half the planet is in constant dark and the other half is in constant light and the societies of the two sides are in conflict. There was also some sort of parasite or creature that would get into a person's foot and then slowly work its way to the heart unless stopped.

Even though it was a sci-fi show and the doctor arrives on a spaceship, everything was a sort of Jules Verne Victorian-era retro style with the doctor having a little black bag and people traveling by horse and carriage, etc (ie: no computers and laser guns, etc).

I can't remember what it was called (or any more details about the plot). It is NOT Doctor Who and it is NOT Firefly.

that is a pity "Sarah Connor" became axed. wonderful, interesting sequence. yet "Heroes," which has been in the sh*tter for over a season, is going on. Fox must have given it a lil extra time -- the Christian Bale movie is going to revive interest in the franchise. i'm no longer going to be too difficult on "American Idol," regardless of the undeniable fact that. I celebrate with it for what that is and that is a large lead-in for one in each of my prominent new sequence, "Fringe." at circumstances it truly is strong to have one enormous, extremely-ate up hit people can rally round. i'm nerve-racking NBC gained't renew "Medium," what with the large-chinned, skunk-haired comic (sorry, Jay) getting a usual 10pm application. "Medium" is so underrated -- the suited blend of horror, delusion, and authentic-existence drama.
