How much coffee should I use for a 36 cup percolator?

One site said 3 1/2 cups of ground coffee - but at that ratio I would be using a cup of coffee for every 10 cup pot I brew at home.

Should I just follow the ratio I use at home?

The ratio you use at home is better

  • The proper 'ratio' is 1 tablespoon to 6 ounces of water.

However I have noticed that the class I am in has a 36 cup perk that is only filled to 1/2 mark (18 cups) and the guy that makes the coffee uses 5 'coffee scoops'. That's a little over 5 tablespoons. I don't drink his coffee.

If I have to make the coffee for the class I compromise and use 7 to 8 scoops. That's not what I would make for myself, but that keeps the grinching to a minimum.

So if I were making coffee in your 36 cup pot I would probably go with 20 tablespoons.
