My dog doesn't want to eat!?
My dog doesn't want to eat anything.. I have a german shepherd and he recently travelled 10hrs flight. But he used to eat his dry food or a whole chicken in 1 minute. Now he doesn't eat. He doesn't eat dry foor, wet food or chicken at all. He used to eat in the balcony (outdoors) but I moved to a place where there are no balconys so he has to eat indoors but he doesn't eat. I went to veterinary to chek him up but the veterinary said he is OK. What can I do to make him eat?
Thanks everybody for the advices. I left the food and today finally he ate the whole bowl without a pause! :)

The vet didn't test anything? Because it's important to rule out any medical problems-especially after a long flight. Try a second opinion, and get suggestions if he is healthy. But I think it may be because of the move and all the changes. If he isn't drinking as well, he will dehydrate. When you moved there are a couple of things that could have triggered this. For instance, a family member that lived with you - didn't also move. Or another pet that lived with you. He is used to eating outside. So maybe you should walk with him. Exercise him. And maybe even sit outside and feed him on his leash. Gradually get him into the house with it. You may need to see a behaviorist. Or at least call and ask one for advice. I am not a vet or a professional. But sometimes the environment or changes in his environment can cause a pet not to eat. That was a long flight for him as well.

Have you tried putting his dish near an open window or turning a fan on near him? Maybe he will be more comfortable and want to eat then. I agree with others that you should leave some dry food out for him so if he does get hungry he can eat.

The food you are trying to feed might be spoiled! and he knows it.
or
If he is getting too skinny from not eating, does he have water available to keep him hydrated..
and, have you fed him something that has lodged in his stomach, or did he get hold of something during the trip that may have lodged. I know the vet said he is ok, but I do not trust all vets..
Treats that people buy that are over the counter are full of fillers that can lodge in the intestine, especially the made in China treats.
He may have contacted something during the flight, or someone may have given him something during the flight to make him stop barking and it has made him sick...
or someone may have kicked or injured his mouth during flight and he does not want to eat...
dont just take one vet's opinion, they are people too and make mistakes..
Source(s): hope he gets better and starts eating, sometimes if you cook in the house and make the smell real good in the house it will make them hungry... check his mouth for sores. He's upset because everything is new and different and pets that are flown are sometimes (often?) not treated very well by airline personnel so he is probably frightened also. Give him time to settle in and settle down, give him lots of gentle attention. So glad that you had the good sense to take him to a vet. Good luck.

Leave the food out and he will eat when he is hungry enough.
