Why won't iTunes detect my iPod Touch?

I've tried downgrading to iTunes 7.7, but it doesn't help. I know my usb cable is working properly because iTunes detects my iPod Nano.

Anyone know what's going on?

    You might need to update your Computer Drivers from the Microosft Office website.

    maybe your itouch's usb connector is messed up.
