How long do they keep animals before they euthanize them at the Humane Society?
my jerk neighbors trapped my favorite cat and turned him in to animal control 3 days ago. I want to know if my Nicky is still alive!

It depends on the animal. After the initial hold period (3-5 days) to make sure its not claimed many animals will be put to sleep if they are unfriendly, sick or severely injured as the cost to rehabilitate these animals is too much for the shelter. Friendly, healthy pets will stay the typical adoption period which is about 2 weeks depending on the shelter. Exceptional pets may given longer.

your cat should be alive still. I volunteer at the local animal shelter, and animals are held for at least a week, usually longer depending on the amount of space available. Nobody enjoys euthanizing animals, and we try and do all possible to refrain from it. Does your animal have a microchip? If not, this would be a great investment. This would allow your pet to be identified at any shelter or veterinary office, and would ensure that your beloved Nicky would be kept safe. If this happens again (your neighbor taking your cat) you should tell an officer, as this could be considered theft. Hope it helps!

How awful! Go to the humane society now. Most of the Humane Societies will keep the animals for 3-5 days depending on the animal. Hopefully this shelter is no-kill, but just stop reading and get your cat! NOW!

Three days ago! I'd have gone to the shelter IMMEDIATELY! If this is an animal you really adore, get your butt to wherever the shelter is and rescue it! With regard to how long do animals stay before they are euthanized? Well, it depends on the individual shelter - some are "no-kill," but far too many are NOT. Move - quickly!

We just adopted an 11 year old cat at the beginning of June, who was dropped at the Humane society in mid March. So no, it s not an immediate euthanasia for all animals.

call the humane society immediately. many animal shelters have to hold animals for a minimum of 72 hours by law. It depends on what state you live in. Washington State has the 72 hour law for sure.

It depends on your shelter. Some are required to wait 7 days, some 5, some only 3. Call your local places NOW and find out. Why you would wait 3 days is beyond me.....

welllll If it is your cat, you should go claim it! If not, then maybe you weren't providing proper care or something. At any rate, they won't confirm specific data unless you are wanting to claim or adopt the animal.
They kill them based on occupancy, needs of the animal, it's condition, and age. So if he was old with feline leukemia he is probably already gone. If he was a kitten that was healthy he is probably going to get cleaned up then adopted out.
