Can someone help my sweet little '94 Mitsubishi Mirage?

I can't live without this car!! Problem: It's a 4-cylinder and only 3 cylinders are hitting, making it chug along at only 10 mph. I got it to a shop and the mechanic said he would have to send it somewhere and have the motor "ground down," and it would cost me $2300. to get it fixed. I'm in a state of mourning! Has anyone heard of this before and would any one have any ideas that would let me get it fixed cheaper?

I have never had to put anything new on this car except tires and batteries.

there is no such thing as a ground down motor.go elsewhere and have it checked.if its misfiring you have a bad plug or coil or wire.if its not leaking oil into the radiator or antifreeze into the engine the head is fine.get a good tune up and i bet that fixes your problem.your mechanic is trying to make money on you for something you don't need.hes the butt wipe that gives us real technician's a bad name.what a butt wipe.

Get it a second opinion/ another price. Basically he is wanting to put new head on it or either rebuild the engine. Also, look for used engines at junk yards through a mechanic. Usually a mechanic can find a good used engine that will give you car a great second life. If you have to spend the money, get a new car, sorry to say that, cars can be a part of the family!

Its time to retire the car, Im sorry.

Get a new car. Don't spend $2300 on a 14 year old car.

when one of your cylinders starts misfiring this is what happenes, a mechnaic has to send your engine over and like he said it ground down... honestly its not worth spending 2300 on a mitsubishi mirage, mirages are cheap throw away cars you can get em real cheap. time to upgrade to a better car
