You probably have a SATA hard drive. SATA wasn't around when XP was released so it can't recognize SATA drives.

But there may be drivers available from manufacturer.

But in my opinion you are putting YUGO engine in a BMW. WHY?

The most convenient thing would be to install Windows Vista since there is a gig or so of device drivers on the install disk and it detects a huge amount of different hardware and installs in 30 minutes or less with a very fast hard drive.

With Vista, if you end up needing a hard drive driver, it cn be loaded on the fly via USB stick or even CD/DVD...

With XP, it can only look for a floppy drive which is kinda gonna be missing on a laptop...

So if it really has to be XP you will need to make a custom version of the XP install disk that includes the drivers you need.

If you have an Intel based unit you will want to download the latest "Intel Matrix Storage Manager" and look for the download package with the floppy driver that you will then patch into the install image you are constructing.

Basically you will copy your XP install disk onto a hard drive and then patch in the specific drivers you need and other settings.

Then you burn the disk you have made and use it to install.

This is where you go to get the tool to do this:

There are complete instructions on the site.

I don't know why you want XP, because Vista is much better if you want a windows application. Most of the beginning kinks are out in this edition and actually I haven't had a problem with it.

Nor anyone else I know for that matter.

But in general call the company who makes the laptop and talk to tech Support. Also try online as in most cases you can talk to someone online to help you or at least get contact info for the company.

Check the harddisk from DOS prompt using FDISK & CHKDSK commands. Check if it has FAT32 or NTFS partations. Also check size of Each partition.
