Nationwide car company has refunded me twice.?
HI
I recently purchased a car from a well known car company. I also purchased an extended warranty. After reading about the warranty I realised it wasn't worth the paper it was written on and used my right to cancel. Warranty was cancelled and I was sent a refund by cheque. The same day as I received the cheque I had already sent the company a letter requesting the refund. A week or so later I have received another cheque from a different department as a refund.
Now I know I should rip up the cheque and send it back. But am I breaking the law if I bank it and see what happens?? If they realise there mistake I would obviously reimburse the money without question and just act dumb!!

Dear Prison Candidate,
If you deposit the check knowingly that you've already have been issued a refund, you can be charged with "felony to commit fraud".
Depending on what state you live in determines what your disposition is. I highly recommend that you contact the company and let them know what has happened and that you will be returning the check back to them without depositing or cashing the check.
I hope this will persuade your thinking and act responsibly.
PS- Now that you have made your intentions known to the public, you can add the charge of premeditation to it as well.

In the Uk? I was paid three months salary after leaving a job in 2004... They tried to get it back.. about 3 grand, so long as you dont say you will to them or attempt to make any repayments they can't do bugger all. My old employer eventually gave up and forgot about it.. after six years no contact (even if you change houses) a creditor can't claim the money back.. theres a standard letter you get off the net.
Put it into a high interest account and see what happens.
