husky owners!! help please!?
ok... i got my pup about a year ago from the humane society when he was 8 weeks old. it said he was a lab mix. he recently took a dna test and it said he is over half husky. he's always been very stubborn and not very obedient, and now that I have been reading up on huskies, it makes a bit more sense. He does pretty good with me, but he acts crazy with my boyfriend and my mom. He just doesnt listen to a word they say. My other lab puppy is extremely well behaved, so I believe I am training him right.... but my question is HOW CAN I MAKE HIM BEHAVE?? and not just for me, but for the other people in my life! He knows commands, but refuses to do it unless you have a treat for him. Any advice from an experienced siberian husky owner?

Hello.
Husky type dogs can be stubborn and independent when it comes to training.
I would only use treats for "tricks" like "speak" "roll over" etc. But for Basic commands like "Sit" and "Stay" praise would be the reward.
Everyone who is involved with him needs to be on the same page and in agreement on corrections, rewards, etc.
Working with sled dogs and just plain high energy breeds exercise is key to their mental health.
I would tucker this boy out and then do some training with him. A tired dog is a happy dog and if he's physically stimulated he'll be more willing to cooperate with you mentally. Be clear about what you want him to do, be very consistent and always follow through.
Patience and being calm is the best way to deal with what I call silly dogs, Lol. Anger has no place in the animal world.
Good luck to you and your family and thanks so much for opting to adopt!

Your pup isn't disobedient, he's actually smart enough to know that he doesn't *have* to listen to others if he doesn't want to. Dogs like labs aim to please humans. They have a strong desire to please humans. Huskies don't. They do what they want when they want to do it and have a "what's in it for me mentality?"
The solution is simple: make sure your husky is getting rewarded from your mom and from your boyfriend. Ask them to get involved in some of the dog's primary care (putting down the water bowl, giving treats, etc) and ask them to regularly ask the dog to sit, then give a treat. Or down, then they give the dog a treat, etc.
The more the dog realizes that really good things come from your mom and boyfriend, the more he's apt to start paying attention to them.
Good luck!

oh my gosh that sounds just like Sadie!!!! she's my Siberian husky she refuses to do anything unless she gets something out of it but don't think it's a bad thing he's smart enough to know that if he waits he'll get what he wants
take him to pet smart if you have the money, trust me my bf took his dog there,he was sooo crazy and after awhile he was a completely different dog he was obedient and it was just awesome!!
it's worth it trust me =)

You need to stop giving him treats every time he obeys. You can use praise sometimes or petting instead of a treat reward. Then you need to work on other people around you, like your boyfriend and your mom. show them how to make him behave. It takes a lot of work. Good luck!

all i know that huskys are really tough to be trained, they are self assured, proud and independent breed. those dogs really need a firm hand of guidance.
and another thing, i know the pure torture of training.i hAVE a basset hound, 5 month odl pup.and shes getting better, but those kind of dogs have selective hearing, which means that they perfectly know what do u want from them to do, but if they dont feel like it, they wont do it.
