Where can I find Dried Ancho Chiles on the N. Side of Chicago?
I used to buy dried ancho chile peppers as the grocery store - Jewel, Dominick's, Cub, Etc. - I cannot find them anywhere. the entire display that used to have dried chilies seem to be gone from all of the stores I have gone to. I am guessing a distributor went out of business or something, but this is very frustrating.
Does anyone know where I can find dried ancho chile peppers (whole not powder) on the N. Side of Chicago? I live near Wrigley Field.
Thanks

I am a former chef and never in downtown Chicago, was at O'Hare airport once and had a hot dog and ran it through the garden twice, I would look to Hispanic store, Puerto Rican or Mexican, Trader Joes or Whole Foods if that is not possible, you will likely have your choice of both whole and powder, I would get both for different reasons. Worst case scenario there are mail order places, but a city as ethnically diverse as Chicago it should not be a problem.
I live in Toronto ON Canada and have several optional for those things and more here.

you can use any hot pepper, but be careful to add the right amount, as to not burn your mouth. start small, then add more to taste. i found dried ancho chiles online, and in an asian imports store. also, you i can buy regular anch chiles at the supermarket, and dry them in a low oven.
