Stafford Loan Question?

Does a Stafford loan pay for a class if I have to retake it? I had to drop a class last spring and I have to retake it, will my loan cover it? I get no other financial aid.

A Stafford loan is not awarded for any particular class, it is awarded to provide you with financial assistance for your total educational expenses. If you have to take this, or any other course again, this year's Stafford loan will cover it.

However - keep one very important thing in mind....

Your ability to retain eligibility for federal financial aid (including the Stafford) is based on whether you continue to satisfy your school's Satisfactory Academic Performance standard. You must pass a certain percentage of your courses each year, and you must maintain an overall GPA above 2.0. If you fall below the SAP standards at your school, you will be notified that you have been placed on financial aid probation. During the probationary period, you must bring your grades above the SAP standards, or you will be placed on financial aid suspension, at which time you would become ineligible to receive any further financial aid.

It's no big deal to fail a class or two (well, at least from the perspective of financial aid - I can't speak for how your mom and dad feel about this), but you must be sure to keep your grades up, so that you can continue to qualify for financial aid.

Good luck to you! I hope this helped.

The Stafford loan will not offer payment for a class if you have to retake it. If you dropped the class early, you should be able to get a refund, and then apply it to the other class as long as it is in the same semester.
