Of course the taxes will have to go up elsewhere. In my opinion, all these do-gooders trying for a total ban on smoking are actually shooting themselves in the foot as they will eventually be out of pocket..
I hear all the time how much the NHS will save. For me I have rarely used the NHS (Spose Im lucky for being ralatively healthy) As I see it, I am in huge credit with the NHS due to the ammount I have put in through taxes, if I were to get ill later on in life I shall only be getting my moneys worth what I have paid into it. The NHS doesnt lose money cos I smoke.

This is what happens when hysteria, propaganda and PC take over from common sense. It accelerated over the Roy Castle incident, but I tell you, I worked in the same places as Roy) even with him on a few occasions: a very lovely man) and cannot think of any other person who is claimed to have met his end by passive smoking. No, this was the major weapon in the anti's armoury even though the biggest study on the subject carried out by the WHO came up with the result that there was no evidence for it. Such are the times in which we live I'm afraid. It was considered a battle and as we all know the first casualty in any battle is the truth. I'd simply suggest, to those who continue to trot out the old arguments in favour of this absurd ban, let pub landlords decide for themselves if they want a ban on their premises. We will then see just how strong a demand there is for no-smoking pubs. I can understand restrictions in theatres, restaurants and most other enclosed places but the pub should be considered a special case. So many have closed since the ban that it is impossible not to make a connection.

there will be a big savings for the NHS not having to care for smoking related illnesses. most smokers dont buy english ciggies . a few day trips across the channel will keep them and their friends happy for 6 months at a time so who needs english? and the few people working in the cigarette industry can find other work. its no big deal
