Allow air to get to it and it does . Air is the catalyst that makes the hardener function . Leave the cap off for a few days , you'll see .

    Thats a really good question.

Glue as in the standard elmers variety wont stick for a number of reasons.

1: normal glues need a rough surface to adhere correctly and the inside of the bottle is smooth (plastic normally) this stops the glue from adhereing. (put a drop or two on a piece of glass or plastic and watch how easy it comes off.)

2: although there is some air in the container, it is normally closed and prevents evaporation. however if you leave it open you can see evaporation at work

Now on the other hand if your talking about super glues, or appoxy glues, then you enter another ballpark.

Most of these glues evaporate fast thus they dry quickly, some stick to glass and well just about anything. these either come in soft metal tube (metal is smoother then plastic) or in two plastic tubes that are innate until you mix the two togather then they activate and become ..well glue.

superglue and premixed appoxies will stick to their container and lids and dry out a lot faster but this is do to the evaporation of either the water (as in elmers) or a type of alcohol base. Plus alot of super glues and poxies are better at binding to smooth surfaces.

because the inside of the bottle is not exposed to air so it's never dry ..

OR ... the inside if the bottle is covered with a layer of some kind of oil so the glue never sticks

Super glue has to dry to work. With no air in the bottle, it won't dry. Even if you leave the cap off the top of the bottle, only the top will dry and sick!

  • its because the only way super glue can dry is for it to be in the open like in the air but when it is in the bottle it cannot dry because it is covered.

Because it has a lid on it. It needs air to become glue.

excellent question......hmmmmmm.......probably because it doesn't stick until the air hits it.
