How can I run real dos on a partition?

I have a game that will not run in the command prompt, and I have learned that the game needs true dos to run (I'm using WinXP). I recently formatted my HD for other reasons, so I made a 2G partition while I was at it. I don't even know how to access or even attempt to boot from this partition or how to install dos on it. I had thought that there were some free versions of dos out there, but I'm pretty confused about what to do. Can someone help me out?

Try running the program in compatibility mode. Right-click on the executable (the file that starts the program) and click "properties". Choose the "compatibility" tab and choose "Windows 95" which is the closest to the "true" DOS that you'll find without being DOS.

The reason for this part of Windows is for situations just like this. Let me know if it works :)

    Hope this helps :)
