What has been the reaction to Sarah Palin by those outside of the US?

Is she looked on favorably by people in foreign counties and do they think she is a good or bad choice for a vice president who could conceivably have to step into the role of president?

My three friends in England, two friends in Italy, and four friends in Germany, are all aghast at the possibility of such a nutjob being a heartbeat away from being president.

In case you didn't know, the U.S. government is now much more feared by the world than the U.S.S.R. ever was. What a lovely legacy for Emperor Bush.

She is rapidly becoming as much of a laughing stock overseas as she is in the US.

I think most people are frightened of the possibility of her becoming President, because she has no intellect or leadership skills. She would be the front-woman for the shadowy forces that have got the US into so much trouble during the Bush administration. I would not be surprised if Cheney kept on running things from behind the scenes, with Palin as President-Spokesmodel.

There are SO MANY intelligent leaders in the US, why on earth did McCain pick Palin????

That would qualify me to answer. I think Palin was chosen as a strategic and tactical advantage by McCain. It served two purposes:

    (1) To try to gather some disgruntled voters who were for Hillary. Based on their very opposite views in almost all matters, I find it illogical that a Hillary supporter would vote for Palin, just because they are both women. But then America voted for Bush for 2 terms. I guess McCain knows the electorate well enough to make that gamble.

    (2) She rallied the conservative base around McCain. She is pro-gun, anti-choice, almost a religious extremist, doesn't believe in global warming...this is evident because people like Rush Limbaugh and Pat Robertson who have been giving McCain a cold reception suddenly came around to support the ticket. (Which ties in neatly with number (1), her views are completely opposite Hillary's.)

    (3) Based on those two reasons, McCain is widely believed to have made a self serving choice in the Palin selection, and not really wanting the country to benefit from what the ticket has to offer. It is well known that McCain ran in 2000 and 2004, and lost both times. He also ran away from debating Bush in 2000, when his poll numbers were sagging.

("Since the USA economy is collapsing, you really should care what other countries think. We are in a global economy now, a global village, wake up! Don't wallow in ignorance!"- This is addressed to the poster who said that he doesn't care what other people think.)

Does it matter what the world thinks of our affairs? Chances are most socialist nations of Europe will not like anyone other than a socialist.

Seeing as you can no longer trust the media to show a candidate without some bias one way or the other, it leaves me no choice but to vote 'from the gut'. My 'gut' tells me she is a good person/candidate.

I don't care what others opinions of her are because they may be swayed by the same favorable/unfavorable media.

Given her disastrous interviews, I doubt people abroad have the best impression.
