What should my dogs be taking?

so next month i'm moving from my apartment to a nice house with a big yard. i take my 1 year old husky mix and my 5 month old lab mix on walks and stuff outside, but they are mostly inside dogs. When i move they will be able to be outside much more often and i was wondering if they need to be on any certain medications... they are already on frontline.... is heart worm medicine necessary?? anything else???

The threat for heartworm depends on what area of the country you are in. The southern states are the worst hit. But before you put your dog on heartworm medication, please read up on all the risks and make sure they don't outweigh the benefits.

    Good luck!

Dogs should be on heartworm medication whether they go outside a lot or not. Heartworms are spread through mosquito bites, so dogs can be infected even if they never leave the house. Also your dogs will need to be up to date on all vaccinations and checked at least once a year for intestinal worms.

Absolutely they should be on heartworm preventative. It not only prevents the heartworms, but also some intestinal parasites as well. Plus, if you get them heartworm tested annually (which many vets require to keep them on it), and continuously give them the prevention, most brands like Interceptor or Heartgard will guarantee you. Meaning, if by some minute chance your dog has heartworms and is on prevention and has a current test, they will pay for treatment, which can save you up to hundreds of dollars, if not more depending on severity of case.

They should be getting heartworm, bring them to the vet, the vet will give them the correct dosage based on their weight. It will help prevent worms... VERY IMPORTANT

heart worm preventative IS neccessary.. more so than the frontline!

Heartworms can be deadly to dogs.. its very expensive and very risky to treat heartworm.
