I have a 1930 Model A. When the #1 piston is at TDC how do I know if it is on the firing stroke or exhaust ?
The cam gear does not have an indentation to determine the correct position.

When you bring it up to TDC look to see which valve is opening up. If its the exhaust stroke then the exhaust valve will begin to open and vice versa.

the fastest, bot necessarily easiest way is to look at the valves and see if the exhaust valve is closed at TCD. but if the valves re in the block like they could be in a 1930, that would be interesting.
