Spark plug wires - 8mm or 9mm?
Hi, I've got a 351c in a 1970 Mustang and I've recently upgraded to a HEI distributor. However, I'm unsure of which spark plug leads I put on? The distributor's instructions don't mention it.
Thanks!
Thanks gents, I got confused thinking the 8 or 9mm were the ends not the wire's circ.
That explains a lot - thanks!

Tell you what I'd do in a heartbeat! MSD and MOROSO makes the best aftermarket plug wires on the planet. Wire size is not as important as OHMS of resistance per foot of length. autopartswarehouse.com has MSD pre-terminated ignition wires that won't raise hell with your radio interception. MSD also makes red caps coils and rotors for that distributor.
You've gone to the trouble of buying a very good distributor that splats out nearly 50,000 volts of juice. It's doubly important that the spark plugs get all the juice the internal cap coil is making.

Basically this, nothing. The thicker wires have more protection around the core. They just look cool. Unless you have a high voltage ignition system you wont see any difference between the wires. The types of cores used to carry the current has the largest effect.

Go for the larger size wires.
Check the guage of the conductor material. The smaller the guage figure, the larger the wire and better conductivity for the spark impulse.
8 mm is smaller than 9 mm.
16 guage is smaller than 14 guage.
Source(s): With the HEI system, you'll want the higher conductivity wires. Check the specs for both sets. - 1 decade ago
9mm better spark more conductivity. check for ford racing wires they look great perform better. pricey but awesome

The fatter the wires the less likely they will arc to something else. So, 9mm will work great.
