I am 36 and have a new diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis. Have a question. ?
Various blood tests were positive, but other than general fatigue and achiness, I have not had any real swelling. Now, my middle finger on my right hand is swollen, stiff, and it hurts. I know RA affects everyone different, but is it common for it to progress one finger/joint at a time?

Yes, I have RA. It starts with one finger joint on one hand then moves to the same finger on the other hand. Mine started with my thumb. I now have it in my finger joints, thumbs and ankles. I also have it in my feet, and yes it was one joint at a time. I am sorry to hear that you have RA, it is very painful.

My mother got it later in her life than you, and it only affected her little finger on her right hand. It twisted and turned it like you wouldn't believe, however. I hope you'll have a "light" case of this.
My mother got RA when her immune system was already challenged, and my brother contracted MS which is also auto-immune after having some vaccinations (which they now know stresses the immune system). It won't cure your disease, but you may want to be very cautious about getting flu shots, etc.
Good luck...
