About time to FINALLY pull the troops out?

By now, almost everyone is about done with the Iraq War and wants the soldiers to come home. During the presidential debates, there were mentions of bringing the troops home, not it would be an attempt to 'finally' start doing just that.

Most of the finances are going to the war , no doubt.

but do you guys feel that pulling out the troops won't be as easily done than said???

yea right.. sure they will pull them out and them put them somewhere else. the war isn't gonna be over anytime soon. Afghanistan is next and some troops are already there. it's amazing how many people don't want this war but sit back and do nothing about it. no protesting, no petitions, no gatherings, and the ones that do really don't have much support. and what the hell does voting do nothing cuz whens the last time any politician did what he said he would.

Got news for you, they aren't ramping down in numbers. And if Obama is elected, don't be surprised if the majority of 150,000 troops aren't sent a country or two over. Even if the troops were "pulled out", we'd still maintain a huge training and occupation force. As far as finances go, it irks me that people don't understand that these folks are paid whether they're there, or here. Money is spent on training exercises if they're here, and they die in accidents all the time here in the states. The Navy will "steam" whether we're there or not, and it all costs money. Yes, the logistics are huge, the money, but don't lose sight that this is an all volunteer force. Let them do there job and support them. I hear back from some that they don't understand why we don't think they are making a difference. We have to support them. Less than 5000 killed in the years we've been there, I don't see people all over the front pages complaining about all the murders commited here at home, which makes 5000 look small....and those numbers are skewed anyway. Let me say this, I lost 26 friends in a peacetime aviation accident when 2 Navy P-3's collided, and it was reported on page 26 of the San Diego paper....one paragraph. That's reality....nobody cares until it's sensationalized, as this war is.

"bringing the troops home" is misleading. "the troops" will be going to afghanistan. and no, removing troops from a situation like this will not be easy.

nixon was prompted to bring the troops out of vietnam by the threat of large scale domestic rebellion. otherwise we would still have troops there just like in korea which was almost sixty years ago.

Sad news is, they aren't coming home, tons will be going to Afghanistan.

No it will be hard as long as we still do security in parts of the country, it will be a lot easier when Iraqi police forces and military start doing more security and are doing a good job at it.

I'm with bigjoe on this one. I too, have been to Iraq three times. Although, it may take longer than 20 years, the muslims have been fighting for thousands of years, probably never end.

iraq could care less about democracy, they are fighting a civil war... all they care about is shiites and the sunnies... I have been over there three times now for 18 months a piece. And let me tell you that it would take 20 more years to help them.
