reformatting c drive. cyclic redundancy check.?
I was trying to reformat my c drive using my original installation cd, but it gets stuck at 33% and all of the sudden it gets me an "error has been encoutered that prevents Setup from continuing. Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)" then it tells me to clean the disc or run the disk checking utility. I have clean the disk and i don't know how to get to the disk checking utility from here. The error at the bottom also says "Error: The D:\i386\NT5INF.CAT catalog file could not be found. the error code is 1. This is a fatal error." also D:\I386\asms.
Is there a way to start from scratch here? :(
how do i zero the drive?
that's weird! i tried the cd again for the 10th time and after 6 hours on the 33% mark and it finally finished the installation! thanks to you all for your comments.

Sounds like you might have a corrupt installation CD since the error is saying that it couldn't find a file on the CD (assuming that D: is your CD).
I'd contact the manufacturer about it and tell them that you're getting an error message saying that it can't find a file on the CD when you try to re-install. The CRC failure could be another corrupt file on the CD.
There could very well be nothing wrong with the hard drive so I'd be looking at getting another CD before replacing the drive.

"cyclic redundancy check" meanas the CD is scratched or defective.. and D:\i386\NT5INF.CAT is the file that is messed up.. thast why is stops at 33% it cant go on without that particular file.. if there are no visible scratches on the CD then you just have to contact the manucturer and have htem send you a new one.. otherwise.. maybe you can take it to a local PC epair shop and thy can run it through a skip doctor

Right Click The Drive Then Go to Properties- click Check Disk check all the boxes after that go back to the properties window and go to the Tools Tab And go to the Error Checking then click check now then click both of the boxes and start then reboot your PC.

Re-do it from scratch with a good CD - CRC errors tell me the disk is faulty - get a new cd and remove the partition and create a new one - and format it again - yet again you CD is faulty
