Surveillance Software?

How can I find out if surveillance software has been downloaded onto my computer. I have a feeling my husband has downloaded it but can't seem to find it. Also, can that software give out my password for my email account? Thanks!

You could try running a virus scan, but it may be software similar to parentcontrol that unless you can access the preferences there is little you can do, however he may be using a more simple and available method.

Do you delete your history? As this can be used to track what websites you go on. Your computer also stores temporary internet files. These are made to reduce loading times when revisiting a website, but can also tell you what sites you have been on. To fix this open internet explorer and go: tools, delete browsing history. From here delete what you want; it should explain what each button does.

Finally certain surveillance software may be able to view passwords, but it is dependant on the software.

That depends on the software and what is was designed to do. Some can log keys typed. Go to the command prompt and type in "netstat -an" without the quotes. This brings up a list of all network connections on the computer with port numbers. Most of these are well know ports that you can easily Google. The port is the portion of the address after the colon (127.0.0.1:80). You can also try running a virus and spyware scan on the system. I use AVG free for my AV and Spybot for spyware. A last tool that I use is called ThreatFire and it can detect rootkits. You can always just try talking to your husband. Good luck.

There is no really way to easily detect it.

Also you realize he probably saw you type this if he has surveillance software. And yes it can get passwords.
