Help! my science homework is too hard! any good scientists out there?

okay is Mg+HCl (arrow) h(subscript)2 + MgCl(subscript)2 double replacement equation or single?!

    single because the h didn't have anything in the first place and the h and mg switched. only one thing switched. single

    single replacement

    the magnesium replaces the hydrogen in the hydrochloric acid

    in other words, the Mg replaces the H in the HCl so it's a single replacement

    a double replacement would be something like

    MgO+2HCl-->H2O+MgCl2
