what about space heaters?
I live in really nice 4 bedroom house with 3 other people... we moved in last year just in time for winter, and our house is heated by gas. when we had the heat at 74 degrees we got a nearly $400 electric bill, that was way too much for us to afford with all the other utilities. So we turned it down. Instead we all bundled up, shrink wrapped the windows and I got a heat lamp because I hate the cold and was misereable. I only ran it at night, and only during the week ( I spent weekends at friends houses who don't ahve to worry about this stuff and run the heat) I only ran it at night, from about 2a to 6:45a because that's when i'm sleeping, of course it was on its lowest setting while I was asleep.
Unfortunately the heat lamp (which was supposed to be an energy saver) drove our electric bill up by at least $100. this spring it (before the rate dropped) i stopped using it and our bill dropped to $75... this summer our bill for all three months was barely over a hundred. Me and my roommates are all pissed about this. Especially since all 3 of them ran window unit air conditioners this summer(i didn't i like the heat). We all feel like they shouldn't have to pay extra because they don't mind the cold and I do, which I totally understand cause I didn't want to be punished because they can't take the heat. So here's my question, can anyone reccomend a small space heater that will keep me warm in my room without driving up my electric bill? i don't want to only be under the blankets in my room, i want to be able to be warm in my house without not being able to eat.

If your friends don't want to pay for your space heater, it looks like you will have to use it only in an area where you benefit from it, and you will need to pay them the extra money on the electric bill.
It is much cheaper electricity wise to run a fan than an air conditioner, or heater.
Last winter I moved into the house I'm living at now, and we had space heaters (2) running throughout the day and turned them off at night. We keep our thermostat at 65 degrees and our upstairs bears most of the heat. We have an oil tank that we use about 1/4 tank a month. I know how unaffordable heating is, especially in winter.
My best suggestion to you is to visit the store and look for a model that has a thermostat on it, that turns off once it reaches a certain temperature. Your electric bill will go up no matter what. Buy a few extra sweaters and a full length robe.
My mother in law bought a heat lamp type of heater that had elements that look like the inside of a toaster oven. Her living room got so hot and roasty, it was nice. Only problem is her electric bill went from $75 to $220. My electric bill last winter was $150 from running two space heaters and moderate electric consumption. You just have to turn off your lights, t.v.s and anything else you can do to save money. If you cook dinner, leave the oven open (and off) afterwards to let some extra heat in. Same goes with the dryer.. you wouldn't believe how much that helps heat my house when I use it!!!
Good luck, stay warm!

i don't be attentive to the place you're, yet right here interior the country, any enormous field ironmongery save could have a large sort. the main inexpensive ones have not have been given any thermostat, yet 3 fixed settings, fan only, low (750 watts) and severe (1500 watts). fee tiers from approximately $20 and up. The 2nd lowest fashions have a thermostat so which you would be able to set a temperature and the heater will cycle on and rancid to maintain the putting. those start up at approximately $25 and up. the priority is, maximum all would be constrained to 1500 watts. This score is predicated on the obstacles imposed on the wiring in rooms in residences. those heaters will shop a closed room 10x10 feet quite gentle. I also have a small heater like this in my storage for freeze secure practices in wintry climate. My storage is unheated. I changed the thermostat so that's desperate for sort of 38 tiers F. the backside putting initially were 60 tiers F. besides, all you choose for do is circulate to a ironmongery save or a house and backyard save, and then shop around for one that matches your desires. another source includes techniques, thrift shops. we've multiple charity donation shops that resell donated products. they could have used heaters that could greater wholesome what you choose for.
