Chris Cornell or Kurt Cobain?
Who's better and why?
BQ1: Favorite Soundgarden song
BQ2: Favorite Nirvana song
R&P has been slow lately.....lol
I've heard some of Chris's solo singles that were produced by Timbaland.......I absolutely HATE it....Timbaland changed his music!
Exemplars_one: Your welcome. But Polly is one of my favorite Nirvana songs! lol
I love both, that's why I asked this question but I'm going to say Kurt Cobain because Nirvana is my second favorite band of all time.
Chris is the better singer, but I guess I connect with Nirvana's music better........I'm a huge fan of both Soundgarden and Nirvana, though.
mo-free: It's ok.
bankchick: Great reasoning! *sarcasm*

Oh my gosh... you just made my head explode... to be quite honest, as deep as my love for both Nirvana and Soundgarden is, I would have to say Chris Cornell. His voice is just flat-out jaw-droppingly awesome. It's amazing. I think that he was probably the best of the grunge singers. Though Kurt is great in his own right. He did great guitar lines while singing. He influenced countless other musicians. His voice was always 100% on tune, but for a singer with no professional lessons, he was pretty darn good. His voice also had a down home quality to it that sounded like he was almost talking to you, and only you. They are both fantastic singers/ musicians.
BA1: I can't name only one...Superunknown, Black Hole Sun. Spoonman, The Day I Tried To Live, Fresh Tendrils, 4th Of July, and Like Suicide.
BA2: Oh. nooooo... so may... all the songs off Nevermind except for Polly, Breed, and Something In The Way. Nothing really off Bleach... everything off of In Utero excpet for Rape Me, Tourette's, and Radio Friendly Unit Shifter.
Also, fantastic question. You brightened my day.

Kurt Cobain, his voice was more unique. Cornell's voice was good, but I don't find it as unique as Kurt's. Also, Kurt's voice conveys an overwhelming amount of emotion that I think makes up for any lacking it has in technicality. I also am more drawn to Kurt's lyrics. I guess when you are talking about two great musicians like Kurt and Chris, it becomes a matter of opinion about which appeals more to you though. Also, as Kurt's career went on, he was getting better and better with the technicality aspects of his music, so we have no idea, he could be even better today if he were still alive, so it is not fair to say that Cornell would be considered better today if Kurt were still alive because we don't know what kind of advances Kurt would have made if he had lived.

I like them both vocally but Chris edges out looks wise. The man is GORGEOUS, those blue eyes just make me melt.
Favorite Soundgarden song: Outshined
Favorite Nirvana song: All Apologies
Favorite Chris Cornell solo song: Friend for the end of the world

Chris Cornell. Just listen to his voice... it's amazing.
Cobain sometimes sounds like he's mumbling, in my opinion.
BQ1: Spoonman or Fell On Black Days
BQ2: Sliver.
Nirvana did not start grunge, they brought it into the mainstream.
Cornell was a part of Temple of the Dog, Soundgarden, Audioslave, and now solo. He's very successful.
*Edit: Lily, I was watching a TV show, and one of his solo songs came on (Timbaland produced), and I was thinking, "what is this crap?" And at the end, they said that it was Chris Cornell. I was in shock!

Soundgarden: Black Hole Sun
Nirvana: Something In The Way (so many that are great, tho)
Rock In Peace, Kurt.
Kurt Cobain is better, because he made a huge imprint on rock even tho he was here for such a short time, and Chris Cornell has been here a while and probanbly hasn't made more of a mark than Kurt has.

Chris and Kurt both have great voices in my opinion and i'm a big fan of both. However Nirvana are my favourite so i would have to go with the late great Kurt Cobain
My favourite soundgarden song would be "blow up the outside world" and "blackhole sun" sorry i just couldn't choose one hehe :P
My favourite Nirvana song urm now that is a hard one. I have a few at the moment, my nirvana favourites change quite frequently. My fav Nirvana songs at the moment are "Endless Nameless" "I Hate Myself And Want To Die" "Serve The Servants" and "Aneurysm"

You know my answer.... Kurt Cobain, I like Chris too! Its just he has one big f*ckin' ego and I just think Kurt was more lyrically talented. Plus Kurt never worked with timbaland.... either way they were/are both highly talented people.

Soundgarden - Outshined
Nirvana - Smells like Teen Spirit
Chris Cornell is better. For one, his voice is clearer. And he's amazing live. I saw him back in August during Projekt Revolution. He was probably the best act that night besides Atreyu.

Cornell undoubtedly has better chops, but he didn't really resonate with me the way Cobain did. I felt like Cobain was a better songwriter and was better with melody. I like Soundgarden well enough, but like I said it just didn't really get me the way Nirvana did.
Soundgarden: Jesus Christ Pose
Nirvana: Scentless Apprentice
